Region of Southern Denmark is testing an AI tool that listens to the conversation between doctor, patient and staff and drafts the journal note. A psychiatrist in Odense says it saves him three to four hours a week, while an emergency physician says the notes are not yet structured well enough to save him time.
What they built
An ambient AI documentation tool records everything said during a consultation, separates the speakers and proposes a note for the patient record, which the clinician then corrects and approves. It is being tested by emergency physicians at FAM Odense (Odense University Hospital) on home visits to nursing homes and by staff at Lokalpsykiatri Odense. The pilot is part of one of three national large-scale AI projects agreed between the government, KL and Danish Regions.
The result
Self-reported: psychiatrist Zoltan Barkanyi says it saves him up to half an hour per long conversation, or 3-4 hours a week. Emergency physician Søren Kabell Nissen, who otherwise spends about 10 minutes per note, says the tool does not yet save him time because the note lacks the expected structure and clinical language.
