Jon Erwin and his production company Wonder Project used generative AI for battle crowds, fortresses, fires and landscapes in season 2 of Amazon's House of David. That is more than four times as many AI shots as season 1, and Erwin openly defends the method.
What they built
The team filmed real actors with a real camera and built the digital world around them with a stack of 10-15 AI tools: image generators, upscaling and video generators, including Runway's image-to-video, Luma's modification features and tools from Google and Adobe.
The result
Up from more than 70 AI shots in season 1 to 350-400 in season 2. Erwin says the cost of the shots is 'minuscule' compared with traditional VFX (self-reported).
