Norges Bank Investment Management, which manages Norway's roughly 2 trillion dollar oil fund, uses Anthropic's Claude to screen every company on its first day in the equity portfolio. Within 24 hours, the AI flags possible links to forced labour, corruption or fraud.
What they built
Language models scan a wide range of public information beyond what data vendors cover, run deeper searches where risks appear around key themes, and produce contextual summaries. The ESG risk team receives daily AI-generated risk assessments of the previous day's new investments and decides how to mitigate them. People always review the information before a decision. NBIM has also rolled out Claude Enterprise and Claude Code across the organisation.
The result
All new portfolio companies are screened within 24 hours of investment (the fund holds more than 7,200 companies). Self-reported via vendor: employees save more than 20% of their time each week on AI-assisted tasks, with 600+ active users in the first two months.
