Bridgewater Associates' applied AI team built PAT (Pocket Analyst Tool), an internal AI analyst that draws on the fund's 50 years of investment knowledge. It has been rolled out to hundreds of investors and does deep exploratory research in minutes that used to take hours.
What they built
PAT is a specialised agent that writes and validates analysis code with ideas from compiler theory: parallel code generation, DAG validation and static analysis, plus human-in-the-loop and self-correction. A dedicated time-series search lets the agent find the right economic data series and inspect them the way a human analyst would. Security is handled per user.
The result
Rolled out to hundreds of investors. Accuracy of the time-series search went from 50% to 90%, and research that took hours now takes minutes (self-reported).
