The manager of a small Mexican restaurant in Wellington, New Zealand used Claude Code to build a custom app for the record-keeping that NZ's Food Act 2014 requires. It runs on a retired POS tablet.

What they built

A React + Vite app with a shadcn dark-mode interface, designed for tablet and laptop buttons. It runs on a 2018 Samsung Tab A and stores its records in Google Sheets, so the non-technical owner can view and edit them and city council inspections are easy. Inventory, shopping-list and food-truck event modules are planned.

The result

Self-reported: a working compliance tool built in about a week, which off-the-shelf restaurant software could not have provided. No quantitative result yet.
