IBM has rebuilt its internal HR assistant AskHR into an agentic digital worker on watsonx Orchestrate. It answers questions and performs HR tasks for both employees and managers.
What they built
Language models classify the employee's request, route it to the right HR area such as pay, benefits or careers, and answer or perform a task. This can include employee letters, vacation requests, payslip access, transfers and organizational changes, integrated with Workday, SAP and Concur. Complex cases are passed on to human HR advisors.
The result
94% of common questions are resolved in the system, and there are 75% fewer support tickets since 2016. Over 11.5 million interactions in 2024, 99% adoption among managers, and a contributing factor to 40% lower HR operating costs over four years.
